Draft Starts In
Draft Lottery
Non-playoff teams enter a lottery for the first 6 picks to discourage tanking. Picks 7 and beyond follow inverse order of the previous season record.
Lottery System
The lottery is held at the Winter Meetings in December. Teams that miss the playoffs are eligible, with worse records having better odds.
Did You Know?
The draft is held during the All-Star Game festivities in July, giving it maximum exposure during one of baseball's biggest events.
